VOICE STUDIO

I am a committed voice teacher with over eleven years of teaching experience. I have taught at the University of California, Berkeley; Yale University; and The Peddie School (NJ) in addition to maintaining private studios in California, New York, Connecticut, and Ohio and have worked with students at all levels—from beginners to aspiring professional singers. I hold advanced degrees in both voice performance and voice pedagogy, and in my teaching I draw from aspects of each of these areas as well as from my professional performing experience.

I work with students to simplify their singing, to release the body of tensions and artificial approaches in order to allow them to express in the most honest and open way possible. I believe it is the duty of the voice teacher to share with students his/her expertise in the areas of diction, musicianship, interpretation, and performing/auditioning in addition to work on vocal technique. Lessons in my studio are, therefore, divided between concentrated work on vocal technique and the application of this technique to repertoire and its interpretation. Additionally, I am eager to share with my students that which I have learned as a performer both onstage and off, and I am happy to offer insights and guidance regarding careers in the music business.

My goal is to provide students with skills and tools which will allow them to develop such a thorough understanding of their voices that they ultimately become independent singers with a clear and accurate perspective on their own singing.

My voice studio is located in Oakland, CA. For more information about lessons, please fill out and submit the form on the "Contacts" section of this site.
